Hen Harrier, Stiffkey, 23rd December 2014. Only this distant male and one even more distant female showed this evening, in contrast to the about 17 Marsh Harriers roosting at Pope's Marsh, Salthouse, last evening. The latter were much more spectacular but much more difficult to count accurately.

Herring Gull, Salthouse, 7th December 2014. This bird has been around Salthouse for some days. It was apparently ringed as a chick on Heligoland this summer and is of the form argentatus. Hopefully Heligoland will now send us some more of its birds, beginning with the albatross and the Black-faced Bunting!
