Eastern Common Tern, Scolt Head, Norfolk, 2014. This striking-looking bird was first seen on Scolt Head on 19th May (top photo of these four). It was then on Arnold's Marsh, Cley, for an hour or so on 21st August (when I failed to photograph it) and then was back again on Scolt Head on 29th August when these photographs (the first three above) were taken. When at Scolt, it has been viewable from Brancaster beach. All photographs taken by and here courtesy of Baz Scampion. Note the dusky plumage (especially the underparts and especially in spring) and the virtually black bill and legs |
